Though many of us suffer from Palin Factor Fatigue, it is irrefutable that there is a nagging curiosity to have the question answered, ?How in the world did Sarah Palin become so popular and why do we still need to hear about her?? My book answers these questions in detail and urges us all to be vigilant. She is one of a small pool of ?rising stars in the republican party? as John McCain stated as recently as January 25, 2009 on Fox News Sunday.

As unbelievable as her meteoric rise was we cannot delude ourselves, turning our backs once again, into thinking that she and those like her are going away. This woman is joined by millions of loyalists whose perception is that she was persecuted in the media, stifled by McCain, and mocked by liberals - and now the theocratic conservatives are regrouping with a vengeance!

About

THE BLOG--HISTORY

"Blue Oasis" began in 2005 in its Blogger format (now an archive) and became possibly the first Alaska Blog on Progressive Politics. At the 2008 Democratic National Convention, Celtic Diva's Blue Oasis was honored to represent Alaska as the state blog.

Transition--Community Blog

In September 2008, Celtic Diva's Blue Oasis moved to a Soapblox Community Blog format. Readers can become full participants by registering on the blog to comment and write "diaries." Diary titles appear on the right sidebar for folks to read and provide comments. Blog editors may choose to move some of these diaries to the front page.

While this Community was formed specifically with Alaska in mind, all "friends of Alaska" are welcome as members!

**Note about registering** Scroll down the right side until you find the link to register. Then, just follow the instructions!

**Note about comments** To comment on a story, click on the heading and then look for the "comment bar" at the bottom (it's light grey, I can't seem to change it). I believe the font color NOW permits you to see the "post comment" text.

YOUR BLOGMISTRESS

My name is Linda Kellen Biegel and I am a former 15-year Federal employee. Thirteen of those years were spent working for the US Army Corps of Engineers. I am also semi-retired from the Alaska music scene (singer, sound tech, stage manager, logistics).

When the blog was chosen to represent Alaska in the DNCC State Blogger Pool at the Denver Convention, I attended with the help of Alaska Real blogmistress, Writing Raven and my daughter Morrigan. On August 29th, one day after Barack Obama's inspiring speech at Invesco Field , my life took another turn as it did for all Alaska bloggers when Gov. Sarah Palin was chosen to be John McCain's VP running mate. Since then, I've either assisted or have been interviewed by media from the UK, Italy, Australia and Germany as well as national media outlets such as Wall Street Journal, NY Times, ABC Good Morning America's Kate Snow, National Journal, Dallas Morning News, LA Times, and NPR.

Presently, I work as a freelance writer, PR, event coordinator, community organizer, wife to computer programmer Josh and mother to 11-year-old Morrigan. Our family especially enjoys our summers in Alaska where we get to subsistence set-net fish Sockeye salmon as well as halibut fish/whalewatch in the family's homemade aluminum boat, "The Neverdone" (when it's working). We reside in Anchorage, Alaska.

Origin of "Celtic Diva"

I've used "Celtic Diva" as a screen name since the early 1990's on Web TV.

"Celtic"

"Folks have asked about my Celtic heritage, especially in light of my name. What they don't realize is that I'm adopted. I was born Valerie Morehead of the Clan Muirhead. I was adopted at three-months-old by the Kellens. I always "knew" I was Celt even before really knew. I was drawn to all things Scottish, especially music. That's why my parents eventually told me at age 16."

"Diva"

"Linda is well-known in Alaska & beyond as the prominent progressive political blogger Celtic Diva of Celtic Diva?s Blue Oasis. But back in the day, the early 1990s, I knew her as Linda Kellen, a member of the local folk/rock band Sky is Blu, which amongst other things performed in at least a couple or so of the annual women?s show Celebration of Change, in which I also performed. And if you don?t already know, let me tell you: Linda is one fine damn singer."

I went on after the break-up of "Sky is Blu" to perform with various Alaska musicians and work with national folks like Bo Diddly, Coco Montoya, Debbie Davies, Taj Mahal, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Bad Company, Creedence Clearwater, Carny Wilson, etc...

Sarah Palin is a hypocritical whiner

Sarah tells Hillary to "suck it up" and quit whining about the media.

Oh wait...

Ok. I went to the State Website and read (0.00 / 0)
Sarah Oalin's "Executive Column", wherein she whines about the media, as well as exercises some bizarre "stream of conciousness" incoherernt rambling.

I believe that this time, Meghan Stapleton is telling the truth: Sarah DID write it herself.

That fuschia is beautimas (0.00 / 0)
Palin is so far removed from being sane it should be illegal.  I truly get so mad at her for portraying women the way she does.  From dressing like a hootchie to that dam winking like a honkytonk queen.  I have never seen her dress professional or act professional and I am pretty sure both those goals are impossible.  I fought years to be taking serious and once got in a fight for being called little lady.  That behavior she eats up peanut butter.  Doesn't she know that usually terms like those are put downs.  I was no fan of Hilary but at least she didn't act like a primadona with a temper tantrum personality.

Whining (0.00 / 0)
And as long as we are pointing out her hypocrisy, let's not forget the comment in Runner's World about whining. She is one sick woman.  I sure hope her family encourages her to get the mental health help that she so desperately needs.  Good job on KBYR, Diva.  I enjoyed four hours of blogger radio.

Todd needs to put her in rehab (0.00 / 0)
it'd like to see someone gather all her whining, poor me, the media is picking on me, why am I treated differently rants together in one place. i was just reading an article on MSNBC where they said, "She doesn't like to play the victim," and thought, WTF? Why do so many simply report her own estimation of herself?

... I was glued to you and CC on the radio via the intertubz last night, my Diva friend. Loved it. You and CC made point after literate point with courage and humor. I raise a glass of Guinness to you!

Look how far she's leaning forward in that video (0.00 / 1)
How many women could do that when they were seven months' pregnant?

[ Parent ]
Oh, please... (0.00 / 0)
it's stuff like that which gives Gov'r Palin the right to snipe at the media and the USS Sarah Palin the duty to go on patrol.

She is a walking talking hypocritical liar who freely offers plenty of material for media and the public at large to make fun of.

She just cannot help herself and the more she moans and complains of how she is being victimized, the more people she is turning off.

Sure it only strengthens the resolve of those who worship at her feet in a Jim Jones/Charlie Manson devotional mentality, but those aren't the people she has to win over and for those she NEEDS to win over, she is doing the polar opposite and driving them away from her.

[ Parent ]
WHAT??? You don't see anything bizarre about that? (0.00 / 0)
Are you saying that

1) you're doubting that that video was made when Palin was allegedly 7 months pregnant?

or,

2) you're doubting that a 7 month pregnant woman would be unable to wear pantihose and tight high heel boots, and lean over AND cross her legs, as we see Palin is doing in that video?

Hey, I tell you what...assuming you're a femme (guys might object to doing this).

Go find a firm 6" thick decorator pillow, or fold a bed pillow in half, and place it over your abdomen between your breastbone and your pelvis -- then tape it to your body with duct tape.  Then dress and put on a pair of Queen size panty hose OVER the pillow.  Then put on the tightest knee-high boots you can find.

Sit down in an office-manager type chair, cross your legs and bend forward.  Have someone take a picture of you doing all that.

1)  How easy was that?  Not so much, was it?

2)  Did the picture of you look anything like the picture of  still-Gov-for-25-days Palin?   I didn't think so.

/raises hand

I can answer, no pillow needed, I am 30 months pregnant.

Cross legs, check
bend forward check (not super comfy, but can do it)
panty hose check (they have maternity panty hose)
calf high boots might be a problem because I have some ugly cankles, but I can still do the other stuff.
Egad, I must be losing my mind, I'm defending Palin ;>

[ Parent ]
Did you mean to say "30 weeks" not "30 Months"? :) (0.00 / 0)

whoops (0.00 / 0)
Yeah I meant 30 weeks.. It just feels like 30 months :>

Oh, so I guess it's okay... (0.00 / 0)
in your warped mind to compare a disabled baby to a loud mouthed right wing talker.

I guess in your world the media can demonize Gov'r Palin & family whatwhicheverway they want and the family has to take it.

Are you a masochist?

Clearly, sweetheart, you are the masochist... (0.00 / 0)
...I keep banning you and you keep crawling back under a different name!

Wait a minute (0.00 / 0)
I thought Palin LOVED Eddie Burke!  Well, that's beside the point as the joke was about Palin and Burke.  Of course, it's more convenient to believe otherwise so you can whine about how poorly poor Palin is being treated.

[ Parent ]
"Disabled"? Wow, that's a weird way of putting it... (0.00 / 0)
Trig Palin, as far as we know, is developmentally and intellectually challenged, and I'll bet as soon as he gets old enough and educated enough and receives the therapy he needs, he'd be the first to tell you that he's NOT disabled, not in the sense you mean.

That part of your comment surely reflects on your own ignorance.

And to compound your display of your ignorance, you suggest that there is a COMPARISON between innocent Trig and the hate-monger Eddie Burke.

Really, is this some kind of warped attempt to deflect the true meaning of the Photoshop, which is to bring attention to the peculiar and close relationship between Gov-for-25-more-days Palin and the self-described bigotted "rascist" "h8ter" talk show host?

You should really not try to bring these silly warped theories out from the C4P bat cave.  You'll just get ridiculed yourself.

[ Parent ]
Well then... (0.00 / 0)
using the body & image of a boy who can't speak for himself to hold on his head a blowhard is pretty disgusting.  Families should be off limits.

Let's face it, politics is an ugly business.  Not G-rated.  At best, PG rated.

Just remember, we're on patrol out here in Knix Arm protecting the Governor and 1st Family.  Enough is enough.

Not when this blog in a previous version CITED THE NATIONAL ENQUIRER.  No joke, see link.

Why this blog doesn't encourage debate just as certain people hit their g-spot with smears is beyond me.  But breathe regular the USS Sarah H. Palin is here!

So smear Gov'r Palin at your own risk.  Let me quote our ship's namesake that: "A good point guard drives through a full court press, protecting the ball, keeping her eye on the basket... and she knows exactly when to pass the ball so that the team can win".  Roger ball, Governor and to Blue Oasis...

SP Career Plans (0.00 / 0)
When I saw the CNN piece with Anderson Cooper and Meg[han] Stapleton it was painfully obvious she was flying blind.  She kept mentioning options and gave nothing but exaggerated generalities; then she contradicted herself by saying that SP didn't have anything firm in mind.  I never heard AC call her on the claims that SP could lead better from the outside, but my questions would have been "lead what?"

Is this typical for y'all?

Would it be safe to assume of SP's career that she just burned that bridge to nowhere?

Yes (0.00 / 0)
I think you'd get agreement on that in the 90th percentile. But she's maverick-y so you never know. I plan on sending a garlic necklace of less then $150 value her way (so she doesn't have to declare it as income or a gift, shhhh! ;)), just to keep us pesky Alaskan bloggers away.
